Hema & Harry: East Indian Wedding Feast for the Eyes

Sometimes when you talk to someone for the first time you build up this image about them immediately.  That’s kinda what I did with Harry.  He was the first one to call me, not Hema, and he was allllll bidness. We talked numbers, and bidness and time and product.  Bidness.  So my first immediate thought is “oh man, this dude is gonna bend me over a barrel if this doesn’t work out in his favour”.  Turns out, he’s probably one of the funniest dudes I’ve ever met.  He doesn’t stop joking around.  He’s a regular Russell Peters.

I think Hema and Harry have given me an opportunity to photograph one of the funnest weddings in a long time.  The jokes, the sights, the smells, the banter, the jokes, the laughter, and of course the love.

Thank you for having me there on your day. It was an honor to capture such a beautiful fun filled day and to see your smiles shine so big!

Naomi & Kurtis: Married at the Westin

It was days, then weeks, and what felt like months. But after waiting and waiting I finally got the answer I was hoping to hear from Naomi and Kurtis. “We are officially hiring you!”. It’s like finding out that you’ve won the lottery but no one wants to make it official. So why did I want, so badly, to work with these two? For starters, it’s all in the personality. During our first consult, I knew right away that I wanted to work with Naomi and Kurtis. They were real, genuine and I could tell by the way they talked to each other and to me that they were a couple of the nicest people you could ever want to meet.

And now. Finally. The BIG DAY has arrived.  And this is what we saw through the cameras.

We started at the Westin Hotel where the ceremony conducted by wedding officiant Tamara Jones with the beautiful processional and recessional music performed by Allegra and decorated by Pam at Five Star Events.  Naomi had specialty flowers – purple fiddleheads – as part of her stunning bouquet that was arranged by The Nosegay. The wedding reception was held at the Calgary Italian Club and catered by Roma who served an impeccable 5 course dinner which can only be described as ‘woah’.   One of the highlights for me (besides their awesome wedding photobooth) was the live music performed by Kyemara.  That girl got some lungs on her!  Naomi & Kurtis also had a videographer on hand and one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while was the Videographer, Alex Parker, was shooting with 8mm film. You don’t see that very often these days as most videographers will shoot in high def.  Definitely a cool vintage feel to the final product.

Naomi & Kurtis – thanks for allowing me to be there for you and trusting me with your memories.

Kurtis’ brothers stood for him at his wedding.  As clearly mentioned at the reception, one of them doubles as Matthew McConaughey.  Can ya guess which one??

Naomi, I didn’t actually hear what you were whispering to Kurtis.  And judging by your reaction it’s probably best that I didn’t!

Jacquie & Ian: Stunning Banff Wedding

Jacquie and Ian are the type of couple that are always gonna make you feel that no matter what happens everything is gonna end up just the way it’s supposed to.  Everything is going to be just fine.  Their positive vibes, genuine love and outlook for each other is most definitely a lesson that anyone could learn from.  They are such an amazing couple it’s no wonder that their beautiful Banff wedding was such a hit!  Their wedding planner, Inspired Occasions, knocked this one out of the park with gorgeous details which included the flowers designed by Modern Petals.  The ceremony was held at the Tunnel Mountain Reservoir and the reception was held at The Juniper Hotel & Bistro.  All their beautiful stationary was designed and crafted by Plush Invitations.  The music was downright awesome as Wild Bill the DJ played amazing music that suited Jacquie and Ian and their event perfectly.

One of the best things to come out of this wedding for me was that we developed such a close friendship and I’m so very excited to be able to spend weekends going out for a drink or bbqing in the backyard.  This wedding was truly a one of a kind and offered us the opportunity to develop a new friendship we may have not otherwise known.

Thank you Jacquie and Ian for giving me the trust and honor of photographing your big day.
