I am a boutique wedding photography studio that only accepts a limited number of commissions each year to ensure that my couples receive the best service and quality possible. The Heather Project: a personal project

I had no idea what else to call this session so I called it The Heather Project after the awesome Photographer, Heather Ward. This was her concept and idea. The inspiration? Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. When she called me up to ask if I would be interested in shooting it for her, I was excited and completely honored that she had asked me. Concepts and ideas like this only come once in a while so I embraced the idea wholeheartedly! Especially after a long winter of no shoots due to the crazy cold we’ve had in Calgary lately. Every photographer needs a personal project every now and then and this opportunity presented itself at the most opportune time! Since this was a concept shoot I wanted to try something that I’ve never done with my camera’s before. Video! Now, a quick disclaimer: obviously I’m not a videographer or cinematographer, if you came here hoping to hire a cinematographer, I recommend you check out this talented lady instead. If you wanted to hire a photographer, then you’ve come to the right place! Enough witty banter, on to the shoot! If you go fullscreen then the quality is the suck so don’t go fullscreen. ok thanks. And thanks to her crew for providing us with the cigarettes as props!

Lisa & Dan: Hotel Arts & Teatro Wedding

My first wedding of 2011! An incredible way to start the year to be sure. With the crazy long winter we’ve been having in Calgary we thought it would be best to photograph the majority of the images indoors. That, and they decided they preferred to do the First Look before their ceremony. One of the best things about this wedding is that Lisa and Dan already knew that they were married before they were officially married. During their engagement session Dan had on his wedding band already, and when one of Lisa’s friends asked her about that via Facebook comments she replied: “In our hearts we are committed and married. Just throwing what ya call a wedding to celebrate”. (Yup! I did look through the engagement photos on your Facebook profile Lisa!). To ask your friends to come celebrate your wedding day is a big honor for them, but to do it in the style that Lisa and Dan did takes an all-out wonderful team of wedding planners (Sweet Styling Events and Design), an artist to create the floral arrangements (Sarah Mayerson Design). To top it off, you hold your wedding for a small group of your closest friends and family and you treat them to the most amazing 6 course dinner and reception at the classiest restaurant in Calgary, Teatro. This wedding was absolutely beautiful for all the right reasons. Lisa was a stunning bride. Dan was the handsome adoring groom. Their daughter was the perfect angel who connected them. Their friends and family celebrated with them in style. Weddings in Calgary have a new standard to live up to! Having such gorgeous locations such as Hotel Arts and Teatro gave us fantastic opportunities to snap candid photographs of them and their guests which we love doing!

Heather

I’ve recently started falling back in love with simple portraiture. I was asked to photograph a session for another photographer and while editing her images, I came across this one that I loved in black & white. I’ll post more images here later, but a sample of what we created for now.
