Julia & Greg: single frame, NYC, NYC food, NYC sickness

I’m blogging from New York City!  I’m ever so quickly falling in love with this amazing city.  I’ve only been here 2.5 days yet feel like I’ve gained a world of culture already.  It’s funny how many ethnic swear words you learn when riding in a cab!  Just kidding (sorta) – by culture I’m of course talking about the food.  The food here is sickingly good.  I mean, I want to eat so much of it that I’d get sick.  It’s rather sick that I want to get sick on the sick food here.  I owe it to my friend Julia Newman who is a sick wedding photographer here in NYC (her studio is in Brooklyn which is one of the sickest boroughs).  She’s letting me crash at her pad while she graciously hosts me and my “I’m gonna use your couch as my closet” ways.   She’s shown me the ways of the foodie.  Anyways, enough food chatter – I’m out here for a number of reasons which include shooting a wedding with her and photographing at least one beautiful family (and hopefully one more! *hint hint Amanda Picone) as well as taking a photography workshop – always looking for ways to improve my work!

Anyways, I’m rambling on like only a photographer can – here now is a sneaky peeky from the wedding I photographed last weekend at the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club.  I’ll be back soon to blog about something else sometime soon!

Susan & Khoa: married at Red Deer Lake

Khoa is the reigning champion of our fantasy hockey league.  No one likes him because of this.  The champion of the league wins the aptly named “Law Cup” after the awesome guy who won the inaugural year.  Let’s dig a little deeper into that…no one likes Khoa because he won.  I’m awesome.  Just kidding – Khoa is a total sweetheart!  It’s not like you expected me to let you get away without a proper ribbing on MY blog of all places did you?

Susan used to work with my wife and they never spoke.  But not because they don’t like each other, but because they didn’t know each other.  That’s kind of a shame because I’m sure they would have been awesome working together.  Susan is the ultra laid back, “I’m gonna giggle non-stop”, I want to make the world a happier place type of girl.  And it’s hard not to be charmed by her infectious smile and girly giggles.

So how did these two lovers end up together?  Fate.  Luck.  Opportunity.  Whatever it was, I’m so glad it happened.

I’m so happy to call you two our friends, and couldn’t have asked for a better couple to go camping with this year for our one and only trip of the year.  I’m tearing up a bit remembering this wedding.  There really is nothing more amazing than photographing the wedding of people that are close to you.  It’s definitely one of the best feelings ever.  Thanks for being great friends…both Terra and I couldn’t be any happier for you two!

Susan, I still can hear your sister making fun of the way I laugh…that one stung.  I won’t name names but her first name starts with a P and ends with am.

Karen & Colin: wedding at the Calgary Winter Club

After you shoot as many weddings as I do, you find that you run out of words to describe how beautiful each and every single wedding is. You can only say “that was amazing!” or “it was stunning!” so many times without sounding insincere. So I’m gonna switch it up just a bit… “That was stunning and it was amazing!”. My job here is done.

Karen and Colin are two truly beautiful people despite my inept command of the Unglish language. They laughed no matter what (or how bad my jokes were), they smiled at each other (no matter how many times I wanted them to look at me instead), they kissed indiscriminately (no matter how I often I… nevermind). I’m so happy that I was there to photograph every laugh, every hug, every kiss and every earnest smile. Thank you for letting me in to your life for just one day.

This gorg(eous) couple were a referral from one of the very first weddings I shot a few years ago – Dominique and Mike. They saw my sameday slideshow and they fell in love with me right away. Head over heels. Look at me, I’m 180lbs of twisted steel and sex appeal. Who wouldn’t want that in a wedding photographer? Duh!

Sameday Slideshow

Before you read any further..DISCLAIMER: I don’t normally share sameday slideshows since I don’t really get a chance to edit the images, most of them are straight out of camera. No finessing. But I decided I wanted to share this one because, I just felt like it. Not much of a reason eh… but good enough!

I told a certain bride that I wouldn’t be posting any images on the blog about her wedding, and I’m technically not breaking any rules.  And really, these are my rules. My ball. I’m taking my ball home if you won’t play nice.  But she’s playing nice so I’m gonna share.  Share the sameday slideshow from Shevaun & Derek’s truly beautiful and mind-bending wedding at The Ranche here in Calgary.  Hooray for nonsensical sentences!

The theme of the wedding was the way it should be.  All about family, and I knew this going in to the wedding, so I tailored the images around this theme to create beautiful custom photos for them and for their family.  I kinda feel it turned it out pretty sweeeet.

For those who watch this slideshow you’re gonna be all “wait the what?! This song is so romantic. And these images make me want to cry. I’m so happy for Shevaun and Derek and I don’t even know them.  Now I want to know them.  They look so awesome and like such amazing people.  Shevaun & Derek please call me, my number is 222-2222“.  But they won’t call because you’re being creepy.

Shevaun and I have talked and with all of the gorgeous details we can’t wait to have her wedding submitted to a wedding inspiration site and/or publication.  It was crazy ridickydonk how radical this wedding was.

“Hey TLAW, stop the mindless blog yammering and lets see the slideshow!”

Ok. I talked lots because by the time you’re done reading this, the video should have loaded…ok, NOW you can enjoy.
