Tara & Johnnie: Acreage Engagement Photos

So this is what it’s like to shoot an engagement session on 30 acres of pristine Alberta land!  Damn, that was a fun time!  Tara and Johnnie are lucky I came back on their ATV as I went scouting the open fields and ponds and buildings and shacks and sheds, and clubhouse and moto-cross hills and…and you get the picture.  There was no end to the awesome terrain and landscape we could be taking pictures against.

Tara was a crazy trooper walking everywhere I wanted us to go, all while being pregnant!  No complaints, or tiredness, just straight-up “lets do it!” attitude!  Let’s see what we can do next month for your wedding eh? ;)

Thanks for being so rad with me on the session, hope you enjoy these photos and I’m looking forward to your big day!

Johnnie started cutting away at this crazy looking bonzai-wanna-be spruce tree during the session.  I thought it looked sweet and I wanted to use it, so he decided it needed to be manscaped…wait, that means something entirely different doesn’t it.  Tara and her daughter looked on as he fired up the ol’ chainsaw and proceeded to landscape.  Tara’s expression is priceless! “ok John, stop..stop…stop…stop…we’re taking pictures, not cutting trees.  WHIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! BUZZZZZZZZZ!!!!! Stop…stop…stop.  Ok I’m done.”

At least we know where we’ll be taking some of your wedding photos.

Alex & Marc: Lake Louise Wedding Photographer

A couple of weekends ago I photographed the beautiful wedding of Alex and Marc at the Chateau Lake Louise.  We only met a few days before their wedding to shoot their engagement photos which gave us a chance to get to know each other just a bit better before the wedding… the funny thing is, is that everything flowed so smoothly that day that it felt like I had known these two for more than a few days!  Kinda rad when things work out that way.

One of the most touching moments of the day was watching the girls “oooohh” and “ahhhh” over Alex and Marc’s adorable 7 week old baby girl.  She almost stole the show that day, and why not…she was crazy cute!   Alex and Marc, thank you for opening up your day to me and allowing me and my assistant David to truly document all the events that took place, including the special baptism that took place at the same time as the ceremony.  I hope the photos you see below remind you of your wedding day.   There’s no doubt that you two had a blast!!   I’m excited to get started on designed your album :)

Their wedding was a beautiful affair planned and designed by the amazing wedding planner, Sonia of Enriched Events.  The wonderful thing about a venue as gorgeous as the Chateau Lake Louise is that you really don’t need a lot to dress up their ballrooms, but every little touch that was added, enhanced the beautiful surroundings of being in a luxurious room surrounding by the majestic Rocky Mountains.

Congratulations Alex and Marc!  You two were amazing fun as was the rest of the fantastically outrageous wedding party! (see photobooth photos as proof haha)

Love how each bridesmaid bouquet was a different flower, and all those flowers were incorporated into the brides bouquet. Great idea!

“Love” is Insufficient

It’s funny that with other people’s special days, and other people’s moments, it’s so easy to open your eyes and see the events that are happening right in front of your eyes.  To keep the camera up to my eyes. A simple click of the shutter.  There it is, the decisive moment trapped in time.  Then to come back to my desk and to say a few words about the wonderful day that I saw unfold in front of me.  Oh how easy it is to say a few lovely sentences about my beautiful clients.

I’ve tried writing this blog post for the past 3 weeks now.  Type type type type.  Delete delete delete delete.  Type type type type. Wash, rinse, repeat.  Funny how words now seem to escape me.  I can’t seem to string together more than 2 sentences to tell my beautiful wife how much I love her.  How much I love that she is carrying our firstborn.  How much I love the little boy/girl growing inside of her.  How easy it is to love someone that you’ve never met, and the only communication you’ve had till now is the sound of their little heartbeat.   I simply do not possess the vocabulary.

I’m not a very emotional person, but somehow, my heart beats faster, and I can feel myself getting choked up every time I think of these two.  This was the first time I’d ever cried while taking photos.

The word “love” seems insufficient. To Terra and my soon to be born child – you two are my everything.  This is more than love.

Tricia Bennett Wow, wow, wow. So beautiful and so meaningful. My fav is the one with the sun flare on Terra’s belly illuminating your baby like a tiny “hello, I’m in here”. Such a lucky little one to be born into a family with an abundance of love.
