It was days, then weeks, and what felt like months. But after waiting and waiting I finally got the answer I was hoping to hear from Naomi and Kurtis. “We are officially hiring you!”. It’s like finding out that you’ve won the lottery but no one wants to make it official. So why did I want, so badly, to work with these two? For starters, it’s all in the personality. During our first consult, I knew right away that I wanted to work with Naomi and Kurtis. They were real, genuine and I could tell by the way they talked to each other and to me that they were a couple of the nicest people you could ever want to meet.

And now. Finally. The BIG DAY has arrived.  And this is what we saw through the cameras.

We started at the Westin Hotel where the ceremony conducted by wedding officiant Tamara Jones with the beautiful processional and recessional music performed by Allegra and decorated by Pam at Five Star Events.  Naomi had specialty flowers – purple fiddleheads – as part of her stunning bouquet that was arranged by The Nosegay. The wedding reception was held at the Calgary Italian Club and catered by Roma who served an impeccable 5 course dinner which can only be described as ‘woah’.   One of the highlights for me (besides their awesome wedding photobooth) was the live music performed by Kyemara.  That girl got some lungs on her!  Naomi & Kurtis also had a videographer on hand and one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while was the Videographer, Alex Parker, was shooting with 8mm film. You don’t see that very often these days as most videographers will shoot in high def.  Definitely a cool vintage feel to the final product.

Naomi & Kurtis – thanks for allowing me to be there for you and trusting me with your memories.

Kurtis’ brothers stood for him at his wedding.  As clearly mentioned at the reception, one of them doubles as Matthew McConaughey.  Can ya guess which one??

Naomi, I didn’t actually hear what you were whispering to Kurtis.  And judging by your reaction it’s probably best that I didn’t!

I had the pleasure of meeting Amanda and Corey last year while they were newly engaged and looking for their Calgary wedding photographer.  When they came over to the studio we instantly hit it off.  Her infectiously cute smile, long flowing light colored hair (it was when we met!), those large doe eyes that you just can’t say no to and the pure energy that was bubbling from her and him…well we both shave our heads.  And he’s a good lookin’ dude as well!  I think we knew our working relationship was meant to be!

Their wedding is coming up soon and I can’t wait to get my shoot with this gorgeous couple again!

Alice is the youngest of all my cousins.  Naturally I’m the oldest (wisest, smartest, best lookingest amongst the guys, charmingest and bestest speller).  Alice graduated from High School a couple of weeks ago and asked me if I would be interested in taking photos of her and her friends and her boyfriend Nathan.  Well, unfortunately her friends weren’t able to make it which actually worked out just fine because we only ended having 15 minutes to do a quickie photo session with these two before they jetted off to their graduation ceremony at the Telus Convention Centre.

Sadly, Alice is the only cousin I’ve had the privilege of photographing due to me being a late bloomer and all my other cousins graduating before I decided that I wanted to become a professional photographer.

Regardless, I hope that Alice and Nathan enjoy these photos of themselves and look back on them with fond memories of their time in school and the time they shared together at this stage in their lives together.

Kathy: for fun

June 11, 2010

Kathy is such a good friend of mine and I do value her friendship immensely.  We started off with just a simple relationship; she was my hairstylist (yes, I used to have hair).  Even when I started shaving my head I’d still go see her because of the great conversation’s we’d have and the awesome scalp massage she gives.  Seriously, the scalp massage alone is worth the fee!  You can find her down at Hed Kandi by Hotel Arts in downtown Calgary.

Part of this shoot was meant to be a portfolio shoot for Kathy as she’s about to take off on an exciting dance tour with her group.  I’m really excited for her and I can’t wait to see what she’s come up with.

Kendra and Ryan had a gorgeous wedding held at the Calgary Zoo.  All the little details were perfect for their amazing day.  From the decor down to the party, it was all just a rad time.  At one point I didn’t even want to leave the party!  Of course, I didn’t want to be THAT guy and over stay my welcome (though I’m sure many of the guests of the photobooth wouldn’t have minded had we stayed and kept the booth up and running!).

Congratulations Kendra and Ryan on an amazing wedding and I wish you two the most amazing life together.  I’m incredibly happy for you!
